African Economics Come to Baltimore

According to the New York Times, thieves are making off with aluminum light poles in Baltimore. "Given that they stand some 30 feet tall, their disappearance is attracting a good deal of attention here - even as their final destination remains a mystery."

Economic cannibalism has long been a feature of decaying democracies. One has only to look to Africa to see economic systems where little or nothing works as it should due to rampant thievery and complete incomprehension of what constitutes confidence in government and public order. No wonder Islam seems like a miracle to people who live in decaying democracies. Imagine having rules that get enforced. What a concept.

This sort of looting was also a popular feature of the Soviet Union.
